A burnished clay vessel handcrafted by Jorge Quintana in the community of Juan Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, a place renowned for its contemporary ceramic tradition rooted in the ancient Casas Grandes tradition. Titled Geometry in Balance, the piece is defined by its elegant egg-shaped silhouette and an intricate grid-like pattern that follows the curvature of the vessel. The geometric composition creates a sense of order and continuity, emphasizing the balance between the organic volume of the clay and the precision of its decoration.
The vessel is burnished to achieve a smooth, refined surface and decorated entirely by hand with mineral pigments using a delicate brush made from a young girl's hair. The meticulous lines and repeated geometric forms demonstrate remarkable control and patience, while traditional kiln firing completes the work. Its combination of organic shape and disciplined geometry creates a contemplative piece in which material, pattern, and craftsmanship exist in harmony.
