A hand-modeled natural clay sculpture by Felipe García in Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, inspired by the órgano cactus, a distinctive form of the Oaxacan landscape. The elongated composition rises through multiple cactus columns, with small birds carefully integrated into the structure, creating a lively relationship between the vertical rhythm of the plant and the delicate presence of the animals. Its sculptural character transforms a familiar element of nature into an expressive work of ceramic art.
Finished with red engobe and hand-burnished to reveal a smooth, subtle surface, the piece preserves the warmth and earthy character of the natural clay. Traditional kiln firing completes the work, highlighting the balance between the organic forms, the artisan's meticulous modeling, and the restrained color palette. Its imposing scale gives it a strong presence, while the birds introduce a sense of movement and life to the composition.
