A polychrome clay jaguar hand-modeled by the women artisans of Amatenango del Valle, Chiapas. Each jaguar from this Tzeltal Maya community is unique — the hand-modeled form, the burnishing with river stone, the open-air firing, and the hand-painted polychrome markings ensure that no two are alike. This piece occupies the middle range of the series in size, and its proportions give it a particular elegance: compact, alert, complete.
