"Root is the word that names every beginning, and even the beginning has its root." Fidel Ugarte's image of a root that finds in itself the shape of a horse is the kind of photograph that takes a moment to arrive at and then stays with you — a discovery made in the ground, in the material world, in the patience of looking. The sepia-toned silver-gelatin process gives the image a quality of unearthed memory. Limited edition. 55 × 45 cm.
