A red clay vase raised on three legs, made by the women of Taller Mujeres del Barro Rojo in Tlapasola, Oaxaca. The legs lift the body slightly off whatever surface it rests on, giving it an airy quality that contrasts beautifully with the density and warmth of the clay. Finished with mineral engobes and fired in a traditional kiln, it is a piece in which a simple structural decision — three legs instead of none — opens up an entirely different relationship between object and space.
