A rounded vase by Maricela Zambrano of Santo Domingo Tonaltepec, in Oaxaca's Mixteca. Broad black bands cross its body and divide it into fields of cream and ochre, filled with fine sgraffito lines, stepped patterns and angled forms.

The natural clay is burnished by hand, the design scratched in with sgraffito and colored with mineral pigments and slips.
