An almost perfectly round vase by Maricela Zambrano of Santo Domingo Tonaltepec, in Oaxaca's Mixteca. Its body is painted in tall vertical sections of black, red, ochre and pale clay, like the segments of a globe, and a band of small incised triangles rings the mouth.
The natural clay is burnished by hand, detailed with sgraffito, colored with mineral pigments and slips and fired in a gas kiln.
