Aidé R. C.
Aidé R. C. is a ceramic artisan from San Jerónimo Silacayoapilla, Oaxaca, a Mixteca community where the ancient tradition of clay work has endured through generations. Born into a family of potters, Aidé represents the third generation in her lineage to work earthenware, and today she continues this heritage with deep creativity, personal expression, and technical mastery. Her workshop, known as Savi – Cultura Hecha Arte, is both a creative space and a cultural anchor where ancestral techniques are actively practiced and taught to her four children. Aidé’s work spans a range of forms — from finely burnished vessels and utilitarian wares to expressive sculptures — each shaped by hand and decorated with oxides, engobes, and burnishing techniques fired with wood at traditional temperatures. Her pieces reflect a careful balance between functional craft and artistic ornamentation, drawing on the mixteco identity and the rhythms of daily life in the Mixteca. Her artistic voice has earned recognition beyond her village: Aidé’s work has been shown in national and international galleries, and she has been featured in cultural programs highlighting Mexican traditional arts. In 2025 she participated in Feria Maestros del Arte — La Feria, an important showcase of Mexican folk art, where her work was presented alongside over 200 master artisans, reinforcing her place within Mexico’s living ceramic traditions. Aidé has also presented an important solo exhibition titled “Alas de la Tierra” at the Centro de Actividades Culturales of the Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM), an achievement that marked a key moment in her career and affirmed her vision of ceramics as a dynamic, expressive art form rooted in community and ancestral knowledge. Through both her pieces and her role as teacher and advocate, Aidé R. C. embodies the resilience of mixteco clay traditions — nurturing their continuity while shaping them with a distinct contemporary and personal voice.
