Taller Dolores Porras
Taller Dolores Porras carries on the work of Dolores Porras (born 1937), one of the great potters of Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, a community known for its green-glazed pottery. Dolores began working clay at 13 and set up on her own at 17. She broke with the tradition of a single green glaze: she developed a translucent white glaze over which she painted bright oranges, blues, greens and yellows, and she is credited with creating, with her husband Alfredo Regino Ramírez, Atzompa's multicolored glazed ware. She also promoted lead-free glazes after giving workshops in the United States. Her flowers, mermaids, iguanas, fish and faces, modeled in relief and painted by hand, live on today in the workshop run by her family, who continue her style with their own designs. Her son, Rolando R. P., leads the workshop today, working alongside Lorena D.
