Enrique F. O.
Enrique F. O. (b. 1993) is a wood sculptor and painter from San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, a Zapotec town in the Central Valleys known around the world for its carved and painted wooden figures. He won his first art contest when he was nine years old. He works with copal, sabino, enciso, zompantle and reclaimed wood: he lets it dry, cuts the pieces to size and cures them before carving, and he lets the natural stains, colors and grain of the wood become part of each design. He paints with cochineal, bougainvillea and charcoal as well as acrylics, and his designs come from his dreams and imagination. Alongside his sculptures, he also paints murals on historical themes.
