Fidel Ugarte
Fidel Ugarte began taking photographs in 1990. Photography is a technique that allowed him to begin searching within himself, to delve into the past (both personal and collective), to freeze moments of desire or beauty, and to participate, in a way, in the history of his country. He describes his own work as an attempt to capture reality, but the photographs always go beyond that. In his words: “They move away from me almost immediately, and live separately.” He has held 23 solo and group exhibitions, published 11 books (6 of them solo), and contributed to magazines published by UNAM, UAM, CIESAS, INAH, FAHHO, Luna Córnea, DIGEPO, IEEPO, and others. His work has also appeared on numerous websites. He also directed the documentary “Añil, the Men of Blue.”
