New York Titans
Diego Salazar (Rombo) with artists from Oaxaca
New York Titans began as a series of large dry-pastel drawings by Diego Salazar, each imagining one or more iconic New York buildings as living beings. Diego, for Studio Rombo, then took the series to artists in Oaxaca and worked with each of them to bring it into their own craft: red-clay towers, polychrome ceramic figures, carved and painted copal alebrijes, two tapestries, a nickel silver mirror and a ship of reed and flowers.
Diego brought the concept; each artist interpreted it in their own style and voice, and was paid in full. Most of the pieces were shown together in New York Titans, Studio Rombo's debut exhibition at Luxuny Atelier in New York, in December 2021.
