Alexis Villafán

(Oaxaca, Mexico). A graphic designer by profession, a tattoo artist by trade and a printmaker by choice, focused on illustration, painting and tattooing, and lately exploring printmaking techniques and their use in art. His main aim is to break apart, graphically, what we are used to seeing in order to create a different mark: nature rendered in flat fields of color and drawn outlines gives his work the feel of illustration, bringing a design process into an artistic object and drawing on tattoo styles.

He has taken part in group and solo exhibitions as a graphic artist, most notably “ECDISI” (Galería Código Tonal, Oaxaca), the International Painting Symposium (MUPO, Oaxaca), “Desconocido” (Oaxaca State Congress), “Máscaras de aliento” (Museo Franz Mayer, Mexico City), “Los otros que no somos nosotros” (Street Talent Oaxaca), the 3rd Open Painting Salon (Ladrón Galería at Taller Ojo Peludo), “Imaginé que era un pescado” and “DRAGONARIO” (Galería La Santísima).
