An eagle carved from copal wood by Enrique Fabian Ortega in San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca. The eagle carries enormous symbolic weight in Mexican culture — national emblem, solar deity, warrior spirit — and Enrique's treatment honors that gravity while bringing it fully into the world of alebrijes. Wings wide, bearing proud, every feather hand-painted in interlocking patterns of color. A powerful piece and a worthy subject.
