A rabbit in copal wood, carved and hand-painted by Enrique Fabian Ortega in San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca. In Mesoamerican tradition the rabbit is a creature of the moon — associated with abundance and the softness of night — and something of that character lives in Enrique's carving: the form is gentle, the surface richly decorated in his signature interlocking patterns. One of the more intimate pieces in his body of work.
