Legend says that a young Aztec priest woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, when he was amazed by "something both horrible and wonderful:" a glorious comet in the night. He ran to to Moctezuma's Palace the next day to give him the news. The emperor was frightened and proceded to climb unto the roof of his Palace that same night. And so, around midnight the comet presented itself again, mesmerizing the entire city.
Moctezuma spoke with all his priests, who didn't know what to make of this cosmic event. Finally, the wise king-ruler of the Aztec city of Texcoco prophesized the meaning of the comet: the fall of the Aztec Empire.
Three years late, Hernan Cortes and his army completed the prophecy.
