A monumental ceramic sculpture of clustered spheres — black, luminous, planetary — by José López Aragón of San Bartolo Coyotepec, the Oaxacan village that has produced barro negro for centuries. The black clay of San Bartolo is unique: its deep color develops not from pigment or glaze but from the clay itself, enhanced during firing in a technique refined over generations. López Aragón works this material with the authority of a master — each sphere burnished to a near-mirror surface, the whole cluster held in a gravity that feels geological. A major work from one of barro negro's most distinguished practitioners.
