A bull carved from copal wood and hand-painted by Agustín Cruz Prudencio in San Agustín de las Juntas, Oaxaca — a larger, more monumental work than the workshop's smaller alebrijes, its scale commanding a different kind of presence. The bull is among the most significant animals in Oaxacan ceremonial life — present in the Bani Stui Gulal, in bullfights, in the Carnival — and at this size and price, Agustín approaches it with corresponding seriousness. The hand-painted surface covers every plane of the carved wood in his signature geometric patterning, the whole object conveying both the animal's power and the artist's mastery.
