A burnished clay vessel handcrafted by Aide Betancourt in the community of Juan Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, a region renowned for its contemporary ceramic tradition rooted in the ancient Casas Grandes pottery tradition. Titled Traces of Time, the piece features a warm orange surface populated by hand-painted black animal figures, creating a visual dialogue between the natural world and the vessel's elegant, restrained form.
The surface is burnished to a smooth, subtle sheen and decorated by hand using a fine brush made from a young girl's hair, allowing for remarkably delicate lines and precise details. Mineral pigments enrich the composition, while traditional kiln firing completes the piece. The contrast between its vibrant terracotta ground and dark animal motifs gives the vessel a distinctive graphic presence, celebrating the relationship between nature, craftsmanship, and the passage of time.
