A white star in silver filigree by the Salgado Téllez Sisters of Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, Oaxaca. The star, rendered in fine silver wire worked entirely by hand, achieves the quality that all great filigree work achieves: the impression of something improbably light, as if the form is held together by intention rather than material. The sisters work within a tradition of Oaxacan silversmithing that has always understood jewelry as a form of careful, accumulated labor.
